What is an integrated lesson ?

In general, integration is defined as the process of bringing two or more together. In education,

integrated lessons gain a similar meaning as they combine two or more concepts into one but

segregated- skill approach is mastery on listening comprehension, phonics, speaking, or punctation is

often seen as the key to successful learning. Highlighting of just one skill at a time.

There are some advantages of the integrated skill:

• There is not enough time in the day to teach everything in isolation.
• They create a positive and collaborative learning environment.
• Integrated curriculum is real world- issues in real life are multidisciplinary.
• Students develop higher-level thinking skills.

There are some disadvantages of the integrated skill:

• lack of time to plan effective units.
• Teacher collaboration : a successful integrative curriculum involves input from teachers from all different disciplines, such as math, science or social studies. Coordinating schedules and agreeing on ideas across a variety of teachers is often a difficult task.

An integrated curriculum is all abou making connections, whether to real life or across the 

disciplines, about skills or about knowledge (Drake&Burns, 2004, p. 7-8).

Where is the focus in the integrated class ?

• Learn your student
• Slow down so the learners have time to explore the material in depth.
• Limit supplementary materials.
• Focus on skills development, not on activity completion.

Why we use integrated skill in the classroom ?

• Simultaneous use of skills
• Increased learner'a motivation
• Maximized class-time
• Meaningful communication opportunities
• Reduction in learner's stress

In a conclusion; Turkish classrooms are generally used the GTM (Grammar Translation Method ) so students may not develop. The teacher should desing lesson by using integrated skills.(reading, writing, speaking and listening)and students should motivate and encourage for engaging the activies so the lesson will be more meaningul and benefical.
